Jen Solomon is a multimedia journalist who began her career in broadcast journalism in June 2025 at 29News. Her work focuses on community-centered storytelling, public safety, and issues impacting everyday people, with an emphasis on building trust and connection with the communities she serves.

A Virginia Beach native, Jen’s path into journalism is anything but traditional. Through determination, perseverance, and a commitment to her goals, she turned a lifelong passion for storytelling into a career in broadcast news — despite many obstacles along the way.

Jen began her academic journey at Tidewater Community College before transferring to Old Dominion University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in communications in December 2023. While at ODU, she was selected as the Virginia Association of Broadcasters intern at WAVY-TV 10 News in Portsmouth, Virginia, where she developed the foundational skills that launched her career in broadcast journalism.

In 2026, Jen was selected as one of 35 journalists nationwide for the National Press Foundation’s Local Business Journalism Fellowship. She was also selected for the Napoli Management Group Fellowship through Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE), recognizing emerging journalists with strong potential in impactful and investigative storytelling.

Jen was also honored with the 2026 John F. Bell Sr. Vanguard Award, presented by the Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Minority Business Alliance in recognition of her contributions and impact in the community. The honor marked a significant milestone in her career, reflecting her commitment to making a difference both through her journalism and beyond the newsroom.

Jen says her proudest accomplishment is being a mother to her five children. She recently celebrated her oldest son, Justin, finishing his first year of college in Richmond.

Though firmly rooted in Virginia Beach, Jen comes from a long line of die-hard Philadelphia Eagles fans. Recently married to her beloved husband Khalid, Jen hopes to continue telling meaningful stories that connect with people, amplify overlooked voices, and make a lasting impact in the communities she serves.
