CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - BRITE Bus, administered through the Central Shenandoah Valley Planning Commission, is waiving fares on its local routes on November 3 to ensure voters can access polling locations on Election Day.

BRITE Bus covers polling places across all five Staunton wards, all four Waynesboro wards, and several Augusta County precincts. All routes will be free and operate on their normal schedules.

“We’ve done it for the past couple of years,” said Kayla Dixon, community outreach and engagement specialist for the CSVPC and BRITE Bus. “Just kind of started the initiative as a way to reduce barriers to accessing the polls.”

Voters have big decisions to make at the polls on Nov. 3. BRITE Bus wants getting there to be one less thing to worry about.

“I’ve seen firsthand how transportation can be a really big barrier for people in the day-to-day, you know, just to get to the grocery store or to get to a doctor’s appointment,” Dixon said.

By removing the roadblocks, BRITE Bus is giving voters across the Central Shenandoah Valley the opportunity to join the conversation and make their voices heard.

“Taking away another barrier for them to go out and do something that everybody should have access to. To kind of perform that civic duty and go out and vote... Getting to be able to reduce that barrier and allow people to go and do that is really special.”
