What Virginia voters need to bring to the polls on Election Day
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - Virginia voters will head to the polls Tuesday, and election officials want to make sure voters have what they need before they cast a ballot.
Under Virginia law, voters must present one acceptable form of identification.
Common options include a Virginia DMV-issued driver’s license or ID card, a utility bill with the voter’s name and current address, or a college student ID.
Out-of-state driver’s licenses cannot be accepted.
Charlottesville Registrar and Director of Elections Taylor Yowell said digital IDs are among the forms election officials accept.
“One of the more common ones that we see is if you have your driver’s license or DMV issued ID actually added into your like Apple or Samsung or Google wallet that’s on your phone, that can be accepted. It can be digital.” Charlottesville Registrar and Director of Elections Taylor Yowell said. “We cannot take a photo of an ID. That’s the main difference there. It has to be actually the digital document. Once it’s downloaded to your phone, we can accept that. Or through the MyID app.”
Officials say voters who do not have an acceptable ID at the polling place can sign an ID confirmation statement to cast a regular ballot.
Polls open Tuesday across Virginia at 6 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.
