WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - President Donald Trump continued to insist Wednesday that his supporters have tremendous love for him, even as fellow Republicans blame his policies for the party’s midterm election losses.

With votes still being counted, Democrats have won at least 7 Senate seats and 28 House seats in the 2026 midterm elections. Wednesday at the White House, Trump wanted to talk primarily about his ballroom project.

“It’s going to be here for many, many years and serving our country well,” Trump said.

Vice President JD Vance wrote in a lengthy post on X, “The reason we lost is the war.” He was referring to the conflict with Iran, which Vance has opposed from the outset.

Trump, standing in the ballroom that is still being constructed, said he agreed with that assessment.

“Well, I think it’s largely true because it drove the gasoline up a little bit short term,” Trump said. “And probably that’s probably it’s true. But at the same time, if I had to do again, I’d have to do it again, because long term it’s the only answer. You can’t let Iran have a nuclear weapon.”

In several post-election interviews, Trump said he is absolutely willing to accept the election results and work with congressional Democrats.

Trump also said he will use his veto power to block Democratic legislation. He said that will force Democrats to negotiate with the White House to find a path forward.
