The city of Charlottesville and Albemarle County virtual ‘Let’s Talk Trash’ listening session set for Monday November 9th
ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - A virtual listening session Saturday will help shape a campaign to cut single-use plastic litter.
The city of Charlottesville and Albemarle County want to hear from the community through their first “Let’s Talk Trash” meeting.
Consultants from Virginia-based Green Street will ask for feedback from all community groups. Sign-ups close Friday, November 6.
The city’s Office of Sustainability said it wants to create behavior change in the community.
Gabriel Shrizada, a climate program specialist with the office, said organizers want specific groups represented.
“We’re wanting to make sure that we have small businesses represented, faith-based organizations, nonprofits answering those sorts of hard-hitting questions around, how do we really facilitate this needed behavior change in our community to get people to stop littering,” Shrizada said.
Organizers plan to have more cleanup events next year. They also hope to add signs, radio ads and billboards to grow the campaign.
