House Ethics Committee confirms investigation into Rep. Max Miller
Ohio Republican faces calls to resign amid domestic violence, drug use allegations
WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - The House Ethics Committee confirmed Tuesday it has opened an investigation into Rep. Max Miller, an Ohio Republican facing allegations of domestic violence, abuse and possible illegal drug use.
The committee is examining allegations of possible domestic violence, abuse of family members and illegal drug use. The panel cautioned that the investigation does not mean any violations of the official code of conduct have occurred. The committee said it will not comment further while the investigation is underway.
Miller was married to the daughter of Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-Ohio). The couple has a daughter together.
Reporters stopped Moreno in the halls of Congress, where he addressed the situation.
“This has been brutal beyond comprehension and if there’s any minimum standard for being an elected official, as I said, he fails to meet that minimum basic standard. I don’t care about the politics at all. Don’t think about it, doesn’t enter my consciousness,” Moreno said.
Miller said he intends to file his own paperwork requesting an ethics investigation into himself. He is facing pressure to resign as questions about his personal life and possible abuse of family members continue to expand.
