VERONA, Va. (WHSV) - The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office has determined the injuries a woman sustained in a Verona stabbing incident last Thursday were self-inflicted.

ACSO first responded to a 911 call for a stabbing on Lee Street last Thursday, finding a woman with a stab wound to the chest upon arrival. She was eventually flown to UVA Hospital by helicopter for treatment. As of Tuesday, ACSO said, the woman is in stable condition and continues to receive medical care.

ACSO reported last Friday that nobody else was home at the time of the incident and confirmed there was “no threat to the community.” In its latest update Tuesday, ACSO said information was limited at the time as the investigation continued “in order to prevent the release of inaccurate or misleading details to the public.”

In its Tuesday statement, ACSO reiterated it would relay vital information in the case of an active threat to the community.

“We, the Sheriff’s Office, are committed to keeping our community safe and will always take a proactive approach if the community is in danger,” said Sheriff Donald Smith.
