CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) -An annual community event is helping students in Charlottesville and surrounding areas take the next step toward their future.

Applications are now open for a scholarship funded through the Sneaker Ball event—bringing together multiple organizations to support students pursuing college or trade programs.

Organizers say the goal is to continue creating opportunities for young people while encouraging them to think about leadership in a meaningful way.

To apply, students must submit a 750-word essay responding to the prompt: “What does it mean to be a leader in your community when no one is watching?”

“We have created a scholarship fund to support the Charlottesville area youth and surrounding counties, to provide four scholars with $500,” said James Dowell with Prolyfyck Run Crew.

Applicants must include their name, age, school, and grade level along with their essay.

Submissions should be emailed to: ari@tonslerleague.com

The deadline to apply is May 15, 2026.

Organizers say the scholarship continues to grow each year—and they are encouraging students across the area to apply.
