Trailblazer Elementary students explore jobs at fall career fair
Students from kindergarten through fifth grade met people who work in the Charlottesville community and learned how they got started.
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - From classroom to classroom, Trailblazer Elementary students spent Friday morning asking people in their community how they got into their line of work and what they do once they get there.
The school’s fall career fair ran from 8:30 to 10:45 a.m. on November 6. Classes from kindergarten through fifth grade rotated through career stations in groups, spending about 10 minutes at each stop before moving on to the next.
Students could ask guests what drew them to their jobs, what a typical workday looks like and what skills, training or education they needed to get started. Principal Chantel Beverly encouraged presenters to bring tools or equipment and use demonstrations or hands-on activities where they could.
29News hosted one of the stations, giving students a look at broadcast journalism. They learned what goes into putting a story on TV, from asking questions during an interview to shooting the video viewers see on air.
