Albemarle County Rotary Club hosting pickleball tournament to help support student scholarships
ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - The Albemarle County Rotary Club is gearing up for its Memorial Pickleball Classic, an event that helps support student scholarships across the area.
The round-robin style tournament will kick off at 8:30a.m. on Saturday, May 23, at the Greencroft Club. Players of all skill levels are welcome to participate in the event.
Mary Anne Grant, the Rotary Club’s President, says the Classic is their primary fundraising event of the year, with all of the funds going toward $2,500 scholarships they provide to students at Albemarle High School, Western Albemarle High School, Monticello High School, CATEC, and Piedmont Virginia Community College.
“These students have incredible stories,” said Rotary Club President Mary Anne Grant. “They’ve really struggled in many cases, often they’re first-generation college students. Some of them are immigrants who come from abroad, and they really believe in the value of education...They’re excited to be part of a group that is devoted to service.”
