CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - The UVA Student Council passed a resolution declaring no confidence in the University’s Board of Visitors on Friday, August 8.

“The resolution follows weeks of no communication from the Board of Visitors to elected student leaders,” according to a Student Council news release published after the vote. “This pattern of exclusion has eroded trust.”

This comes in the wake of former President Jim Ryan’s investigation, which sparked a backlash from faculty and state lawmakers. UVA’s Faculty Senate has also passed a resolution of no confidence in the Board of Visitors.

The Student Council passed a resolution on July 17 aiming to boost student voices in the process of selecting a new UVA president. The Council’s no confidence resolution specifically took issue with the appointment of an interim president, saying it was done without transparency and meaningful student participation.

“Students do not trust the Board of Visitors,” Student Council President Clay Dickerson said in the news release. “The choice to stand united or continue divided lies with the Board, and students are watching closely.”
