UVA Faculty Senate demands answers on Jim Ryan’s resignation

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - The University of Virginia’s Faculty Senate put pressure on the University’s Board of Visitors in an attempt to gain transparency regarding Jim Ryan’s sudden resignation.

Hundreds gathered, both online and in person, for a meeting that involved voting on amendments and demanding answers about President Ryan’s unexpected departure and how the board came to its decision.

The Board of Visitors says that their actions are in the university’s best interests.

“We’re committed to being as transparent as possible as soon as possible. I think you’ll hear over and over again we will tell you what we can, when we can,” UVA Board of Visitors Rector Rachel Sheridan said.

The vice rector also spoke adding that they will release information as timely assume.

“We greatly value the insights and perspectives of the faculty, staff students and alumni and we’ll look to you for meaningful participation and the process both for selecting the interim and for selecting and the permanent president.” UVA Board of Visitors Vice Rector Porter Wilkinson said.

Through the meeting, the room was full of tension and multiple discussions about what needs to happen next. The Board of Visitors were not willing to answer questions from the floor.

A resolution was voted on for the selection of an interim president form the faculty senate.
