CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - Charlottesville activist Tanesha Hudson teamed up with Legends Sneakers and Apparel and the Jefferson School African American Heritage Center to help families get ready for back to school.

On Saturday, August 9, they offered parents a $20 discount on the first 100 pairs of shoes sold, part of Hudson’s Stop the Violence 434 campaign, which supports kids and honors families impacted by gun violence. In addition to the discount, 50 free pairs of shoes were donated to families in need.

“I wanted to uplift the kids, make them feel appreciated and send them back to school with a positive mind,” says Hudson.

Hudson says she hopes events like this remind families that the community is here to help, one small step at a time. That message got across to Jada Feggans, who visited Legends to take advantage of the discount.

“It brings the community together to show unity for the single parents out there, the parents that are struggling and often stress about going back to school to afford what their kids want,” Feggans said.
