CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - Starting July 1, certain unregistered farm-use vehicles will need a DMV-issued tag.

Previously, an unofficial farm-use tag, not issued by DMV, was sufficient.

Panel trucks, pickup trucks, and SUV’S of a certain weight are expected to have the right tags or face a $250.

“We’ve worked diligently with the DMV and local and statewide law enforcement to get the message out that our farmers are working to preserve the exemption as well as to abide by the new regulations,” Regulatory Coordinator for the Virginia Farm Bureau Katelyn Jordan said.

Jordan also says the Virginia Farm Bureau has been working heavily with the Sheriff’s Association, Virginia State Police, and the DMV for a brochure that has endorsements of everyone affiliated.
