Sen. Mark Warner introduces legislation to address data center utility costs
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - As Richmond Democrats remain at a standstill, unable to pass a budget over a data center tax exemption, Democrat U.S. Senator Mark Warner is introducing legislation to fight the issue on the federal front. His bill aims to hold data centers accountable for rising utility costs.
When asked about the Richmond budget dispute, Warner said the data center battle is best fought in Washington.
Warner said he will also introduce more comprehensive legislation to regulate data centers soon.
“I hear an earful on the question of data centers every time I’m out. I think we need to maintain our pro-business reputation in Virginia. And I think to deal with data centers, it’s frankly better to put it at a federal level because then that can apply to data centers all across the country,” Warner said.
