CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - The Piedmont Master Gardeners held their annual free plant swap at James Monroe’s Highland on Saturday, May 9.

The swap takes place after the gardeners’ spring sale. Its goal is to increase sustainability by reducing waste.

People were encouraged not to throw away plants but swap them out instead. Gardeners were also able to interact with new faces.

“It’s an opportunity to build community,” said Piedmont Master Gardeners President Tonya Moon. “You can come here, pick out plants whether you’re a gardener, or not and you just want to try something else. It also is an opportunity for us as Piedmont Master Gardeners to answer questions that the individuals have as they come in about anything horticulture.”

The Master Gardeners added that even people that didn’t bring plants were able to leave with something.
