LAS VEGAS (KVVU/Gray News) — An investigation involving the Federal Bureau of Investigation has unveiled what officials are calling a “biological lab” in Las Vegas early Saturday morning.

According to a release from the Las Vegas Metro Police Department, police discovered the lab during the search of a home on Sugar Springs Drive near Hollywood and Washington Avenue.

There, investigators found evidence of “biological material” inside refrigerators with “vials containing unknown liquids.”

The release said the police department’s ARMOR team worked with the FBI, local fire departments and other agencies to recover the items found.

Clark County property records show the current resident of the home is tied to the discovery of a similar lab in California.

The Department of Justice said the California lab was accused of importing hundreds of COVID-19 test kits from a Chinese company but falsely told buyers they were made in the United States and were FDA and CDC-approved.

The Justice Department said the suspects are believed to have operated from August 2020 to March 2023 and made $1.7 million from the operation.

According to a report from the U.S. Congressional Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party, the facility contained thousands of vials that included pathogens like HIV, tuberculosis, malaria and hepatitis. A vial labeled “Ebola” was also found during cleanup.

The report also noted that thousands of mice were kept in inhumane conditions and genetically modified to simulate human immune systems.

Las Vegas police have not yet identified the suspects involved in Saturday’s discovery.

An investigation into the lab remains ongoing.
