CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - In recognition of Men’s Mental Health Month, UVA Cancer Center is expanding its ‘Stay in the Game’ campaign, a grassroots program focused on raising awareness about prostate cancer and encouraging early screening.

Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer among men, and Black men are twice as likely to die from it compared to white men.

The initiative aims to break the stigma through community events, outreach, and a new educational toolkit.

“We wanted to really highlight and bring awareness to prostate cancer in hopes that we can help to lower the cancer burden that we see it has on men,” said Claudette Grant, an outreach specialist at UVA Health Cancer Center.

The campaign also trains local ‘champions’ to lead health conversations in neighborhoods across Virginia.

Events are planned this summer in Charlottesville and Danville, with free resources and support available online.
