$60K raised for UVA Health Children’s through local radiothon effort
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - A big donation from a local radiothon is helping support care for young patients at UVA Health Children’s.
$60,000 dollars, raised right here in Charlottesville, is going straight to support care for young patients at UVA Health Children’s.
Charlottesville Media Group presented the check to the children’s hospital Thursday, June 5, and it’s all thanks to their Cares for Kids Radiothon.
“It’s been a huge success now for 10 years doing this,” Charlottesville Media Group President Garrett Klingel said. “Over half a million dollars raised in total. It’s just such a good reflection of the community in Charlottesville when there’s a need like this...they always come through to support it.”
The money will help expand UVA’s neonatal and pediatric intensive care units, support research and family assistance programs, and strengthen care in areas for cardiology and cancer treatment.
“These are unrestricted funds which means we can use it for any immediate needs the hospital has,” UVA Health Children’s Physician-In-Chief Doctor Madhusmita Misra said.
UVA Health Children’s serves patients across Virginia and beyond.
“If families need resources regarding gas mileage or food support services, housing support services,” Dr. Misra said. “A lot of that support comes from these funds which is really critical.”
