UVA research studies how to improve prostate cancer treatments
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - New research from UVA Health is changing how one of the most common killers for men is treated.
Researchers here teamed up with researchers in China to study how ethnic background can impact prostate cancer.
It was one of the largest studies of its kind and revealed a lot about how men of different races and ethnicities experience the disease.
“I actually want to emphasize similarities because we’re all homo sapiens. We’re one species, so we’re definitely a lot large number of similarities between the Caucasian and Chinese,” said researcher Hui Li. “Mortality is also different. Unfortunately, the Asian population has a less, a lower rate of prostate cancer but their mortality-to-incident ratio is really the highest.”
