Driver killed in I-64 shooting identified

Virginia State Police have identified the victim of a deadly shooting on I-64 last week.

HENRICO, Va. (WWBT) - Virginia State Police have identified the victim of a deadly shooting on I-64 last week.

On Thursday around 8:30 p.m., Virginia State Police were called to I-64 eastbound near mile marker 193 past the Mechanicsville Turnpike exit for a report of a crash and a man shot.

“Upon arrival, officers located a 2002 Chevy Tahoe off the right-hand side of the roadway. Demond Winston, 41, of Sandston was found suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen. He was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries,” Virginia State Police said.

There’s currently no information on any suspects.

Eastbound I-64 was shut down throughout the night as police investigated. It reopened just before 7:15 a.m. Friday.
