Cold, dry season especially hard for asthmatics
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - Winter’s dry, cold air can irritate the airways, making the season especially difficult for those with asthma.
As temperatures continue to drop, it is important to make sure that you have the proper medication to help get you through the season, or in case of an emergency.
“The best medications onboard at all times is important to prevent that exacerbation in cold air,” UVA Asthma, Allergy and Immunology division Chief Michael Nelson said. “You can also do some short-term things such as putting a scarf over your mouth to help warm up the air before it hits the airways.”
Nelson also added that people should be checking weather conditions daily.
