CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - New research shows treatment for high blood pressure could cause kidney damage.

This discovery shows the medicine taken for long term treatment of high blood pressure can destroy the kidney’s ability to filter and purify blood.

One researcher says this discovery is going to have several benefits.

“One, it’s going to help decide how much medication should people receive, the second one is to develop new drugs, and that takes time. And the third is that we are going to have better imaging of the kidneys,” said UVA Child’s Health Research Center Doctor, R. Ariel Gomez.

Gomez says this research does not mean to stop taking your medicine. If you have more questions, you should talk to your doctor.
