UVA building up specialty pharmacy with delivery system

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - A business park in Charlottesville is getting a new addition.

The University of Virginia is building a specialty pharmacy in the North Fork business and university facility that will be added to the Pharmacy Central Services Center.

It will be called the UVA Specialty and Home Delivery Pharmacy.

“Our mission at UVA Health is transforming health and inspiring hope for all Virginians and beyond,” UVA Health Speciality and Home Delivery Pharmacy Services Director Joshua Weber said.

A 40,000 square-foot space will soon be the new home of specialty pharmacy.

“The specialty pharmacy and home delivery pharmacy really allows us to reach patients in a very efficient and quick amount of time,” Weber said.

This specialty pharmacy opens the door for better access to medicines and treatments for people living in Charlottesville and surrounding areas.

“We have a unique position as a specialty pharmacy for patients that have rare and often times debilitating conditions to turn that hope into action,” Weber said.

The pharmacy will expand accessibility with home delivery being one of its focuses.

All of Virginia and 13 other states qualify for delivery.

“By offering home delivery and their prescriptions, this cuts down on that barrier to access,” UVA Health Chief Pharmacy Officer Danielle Griggs said. “We can ship across the state and to provide medications to patients throughout Virginia.”

With this expansion, UVA Health will be able to use the tech resources at North Fork bringing advanced care.

“The expansion of this footprint brings in the latest technology and automation, conveyance technology such that we can fulfill and prepare patient medications across our ambulatory network,” Griggs said.

UVA Health says there is currently active construction work going on and plans to be open at full capacity in January 2026.
