FLUVANNA COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - Virginia Free Farm in Fluvanna County stays busy juggling crops, livestock, and delivering the food they produce to those in need.

“What you give away is more of a sign of wealth, not what you have,” founder Amyrose Foll said.

Virginia Free Farm donates free food and firewood to the community.

“Once I got started, I wanted to do more, and more, and more and now it has turned into this whole thing, " Foll said.

Foll started the effort six years ago. Now they have seventeen projects throughout Virginia. They say their focus is food, people, and nature.

“My message was; We are farming in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed, and I’m neither a scholar nor a scientist, I’m just a humble farmer,” Foll said. “But it’s a national jewel, and if we don’t take care of the environment now, what are we going to have to feed people with? Because if farmers can’t farm, people starve.”

Foll said the nonprofit relies on donations. Now that money is helping them expand again, with a food pantry.

“Taking care of community is what it’s all about, and so we’ll have that open probably on Wednesdays,” Foll said. “People will just be able to come and pick up stuff for free.”
