UVA celebrates 100 years of women in science and medicine
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - The University of Virginia is celebrating 100 years of women in science and medicine.
On Thursday, April 25, the Committee on Women in Medicine and Science and The Maxine Platzer Lynn Women’s Center at UVA co-hosted a women-focused historical walking tour of UVA Grounds, followed by a panel discussion with women leaders from UVA Health.
“I think especially in medicine and in science women are being more dominant in the field. It’s taken time and a process but having these women commemorated showcases that it can be done and will inspire the next generations to step into these fields.” said the Event Organizer, Dr. Alyssa Mixon.
While the event focused on the accomplishments over the past 100 years, organizers say they look forward to more change in the next century. They also hope to see more gender equity and women stepping into leadership positions.
