UVA researchers create new AI tool to help heart failure patients
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - University of Virginia researchers say they have developed a powerful risk assessment tool for heart failure patients.
Researchers says the new artificial-intelligence generated tool predicts the outcomes in heart failure patients.
“It uses something called hemodynamics, which are basically these types of metrics that measure blood flow in the heart, how the heart is pumping, things like this, and they give clinicians an understanding about how the heart is doing for advanced heart failure,” Doctor Josephine Lamp, a lead researcher in this development, said Monday, April 15.
Heart failure experts say the tool provides a better understanding of how to treat patients.
“Having risk tools that are able to identify at what stage the patient really is, opens up a window for us to be able to tailor these specific therapies to the patient,” Associate Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine Doctor Sula Mazimba said.
Health experts agree, this new tool puts patients in a better position to get treated and have the most favorable outcome.
