CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - Health experts with the University of Virginia are still urging people to get COVID-19 vaccines.

UVA Health says its hospitalization rates are slightly lower now compared to this time last year.

The CDC reports 95% of people hospitalized COVID this winter did not get any sort of updated booster.

Experts say vaccinations are still the best thing you can do to prevent COVID.

“That’s really, really a fundamentally important point that needs to be understood: If you get vaccinated, you’re going to greatly reduce your chances of coming into the hospital and potentially dying of this virus,” UVA Health Director of Hospital Epidemiology Doctor Costi Sifri said Friday, April 12.

UVA Health says it currently has nine patients hospitalized with COVID-19.
