CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - University of Virginia Health is trying to spread awareness on chronic kidney disease.

Saturday, March 30, a student-led organization with the university gave free kidney screenings at Mount Zion First African Baptist Church.

There were stations for people to get different things checked like blood pressure, blood glucose, body mass index, and more.

There were also certified physicians on site going over what the results of each test may mean for patients.

“One of our essential goals of this club is to promote education about chronic kidney disease because it is such a severe and impacting disease for America,” UVA student Morgan Greig said.

The Kidney Disease Screening and Awareness Program plans to hold more free screenings in the future.
