‘Hopefully, our boy can finally rest’: Student’s leg amputated following school bus crash

CALHOUN COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ/Gray News) - A teenager in West Virginia had his leg amputated after being seriously injured in a school bus crash earlier this month.
Kevin Wilson, 14, was a student on a Calhoun County school bus that crashed on State Route 16 where multiple students were injured on March 4.
The teen has been hospitalized ever since the crash.
This week, the teen’s family said Kevin is continuing his recovery, but he had to have his right leg amputated.
“It was a very hard painful night and morning again. Unfortunately, his leg was just not improving at all with additional complications. So, it was in his best interest to have it amputated,” Kevin’s aunt Miranda Casto shared through a GoFundMe account.
Casto added, “The surgery went great. Hopefully, our boy can finally rest with a lot less pain.”
WSAZ reports that the bus driver, Jeffrey Brannon, was arrested on charges that included DUI causing injury and child neglect causing injury.
According to a criminal complaint, Brannon had a blood alcohol level of .161%, double the legal limit and four times the legal limit for bus drivers in West Virginia, at the time of the crash.
School officials said Brannon has since been fired from his position.
Kevin’s family said there is no current timetable for his release from the hospital.
