CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - The Panera Bread in the Barracks Road Shopping Center is presenting UVA Health Children’s with a check for more than $38,000. These funds come from customers simply rounding up at the cash register.

The check given Tuesday, February 13, comes from the restaurant chain’s Change 4 Children Fundraiser. Thirteen Panera Bread locations across the commonwealth are participating in the relaunched fundraiser.

The money raised goes to the expansion of the neonatal and pediatric intensive care units.

“This gift is allowing us to expand our capacity to the children that needed the most at UVA Children’s,” UVA Health CEO Wendy Horton said.

“We round up to change at every transaction for over 10 years. After the last 10 years, we’ve been able to raise and donate over a million dollars to VA Children’s,” Blue Ridge Bread Vice President Kelly Jackson. “We love this campaign because it gives everybody in the community a chance to support their local community.”

UVA Children’s says this money will help it expand its beds in the NICU and PICU.
