Albemarle County schools overcomes bus waitlist issues
ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - All students in Albemarle County are now off the bus waitlist, and that should mean all students have a ride to school.
When the school year started, Albemarle County Public Schools had almost 1,000 students on a bus waitlist.
ACPS says it was able to hire more bus drivers to make those changes to get students on the bus in the mornings.
“We are also looking at other creative ways that we can route or do things differently to ensure that we have a better start. We know that the start for those this school year was not a great one for parents that didn’t have transportation. We’re doing everything we can to avoid that. But ultimately, it is tied to resourcing,” Deputy Director of Transportation for ACPS William Shifflett said.
Shifflett says it is already preparing for next school year.
It has five drivers in the training program and is actively recruiting for more.
