Man charged after woman found shot to death in Richmond
The shooting happened around 9:30 p.m. Sunday on Hunt Avenue
RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - A 57-year-old man faces multiple charges after a 34-year-old woman died after being shot multiple times Sunday night.
Officers were called to the scene in the 500 block of Hunt Avenue around 9:30 p.m.
Johnnita Russell of Richmond was found with gunshot wounds and pronounced dead at the scene.
Michael Sprague, 57, of Richmond, was arrested Monday and charged with shooting within an occupied dwelling and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Police say that the two knew each other and that this was a domestic-related situation. However, they did not elaborate on the nature of the relationship or what led to the deadly shooting.
Several of Russell’s loved ones took to Facebook, and one woman, claiming to be a childhood friend, said that Russell had given birth just days prior and was killed just one day before her 34th birthday.
According to a GoFundMe started by a family friend, Russell’s newborn daughter is in the NICU fighting for her life and her sister, April Russell, has stepped up to care for Johnita’s daughter.
Police say additional charges are pending against Sprauge.
Anyone with information is asked to call Major Crimes Detective B. Neifeld at 804-646-3246 or Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000.
