CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WWBT) - A 14-year-old is facing charges after allegedly bringing a gun to Meadowbrook High School Friday morning.

Police say a student called their parent and told them that another student had shown them a gun.

“When the suspect showed the other student the gun, they were on school property but outside the school building. The parent called school administrators and told them what had happened. The school was placed on lockdown,” Chesterfield Police said.

Police say once officers arrived, they found a 14-year-old boy in the parking lot. He was found to be in possession of the gun.

No one was injured, according to police.

Chesterfield Schools says the lockdown was lifted just before 10:30 a.m.

Here’s Meadowbrook High School’s statement about the incident:

Let me first say that it is critically important for students to come forward when they see or hear something wrong, and that is what happened today. I am so proud of our Monarchs.

I want to share some additional information about the incident that led to our school being on lockdown.

This morning, a student reported to their parent that, before school began, as they were in the parking lot approaching the school, another student showed them a gun and asked if they would like to buy it. When the parent heard this from their child, they then called and reported it to the school.

Chesterfield Police had an increased presence at our school and outside our school this morning and were immediately involved. They located the student with the gun off of school property and arrested them. The student with the gun did not enter the school.

The situation today was resolved quickly because a student spoke up. Please encourage your child to always talk to a trusted adult when something is concerning to them. By being strong partners, we can help ensure safety at our school.
